The Vikings turned just one of their four red-zone trips into a touchdown Thursday night, but struggling to finish drives isn't always a problem against a Redskins team that often struggles to start them.

Amid a deluge of field goals, Minnesota took a comfortable 19-9 win, led by a huge time-of-possession advantage and a defense that got off the field on third down.

The kickers combined to go a perfect 7 for 7 on field goal attempts, with four consecutive drives ending in successful kicks in the first half. That sequence left the teams tied 6-6 with just under two minutes left before halftime.

Minnesota quickly drove 75 yards for the game's only touchdown, a 4-yard rush from running back Dalvin Cook that put the Vikings up 13-6 prior to the half. Cook accounted for 55 of the yards on the drive and finished the game with 98 rushing yards and 73 receiving yards.

Washington lost starting quarterback Case Keenum after the first half because of a concussion and never cut the deficit to less than a touchdown in the second half. Keenum hadn't been very effective despite completing 12 of his 16 passes for 130 yards — he lost a fumble on a sack — and neither was rookie replacement Dwayne Haskins, who threw a key interception with his team trailing 16-9 late in the third quarter.

That pick gave Minnesota the ball inside its 20, and the Vikings then took more than six minutes off the clock with a drive that ended with yet another field goal. Washington went three-and-out on the ensuing possession, adding to its poor conversion rate on third downs (it finished 2 for 7). Minnesota went on a 14-play drive that lasted 8:16, leaving less than 30 seconds remaining and no hope of a Redskins comeback.

Cousins' favorite target Thursday was wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who had seven catches for 143 yards. He played a big role in Cousins' 23-for-26, 285-yard night.
