Trade Rumors: Stephen Strasburg is "very much available"

Baseball Throughout the offseason, we'll be checking in on the hottest news and rumors.THE RUMOR: Stephen Strasburg could be available in a trade after the Nationals sign Max Scherzer. REPORTED BY: Jon Morosi, FOX SportsTHE DETAILS: With Scherzer signing a seven-year, $210 million deal Monday, the already talented Nationals rotation just got way more crowded —  even their current sixth starter, Tanner Roar

k, rocked an impressive 2.85 ERA and 15 wins last season. So something has got to give, and it may the former No. 1 overall pick, Strasburg.   LAST SEASON: Strasburg posted a brilliant 242/43 K/BB ratio over 215 innings last season to go along with a 3.14 ERA.SN'S TAKE: Nationals current No. 2 starter, Jordan Zimmerman was originally most likely candidate to be moved if the Nationals landed Scherzer, but Strasburg may be frustrated that he is no longer the ace of the rotation or the face of the franchise. If the Nationals trade Strasburg, they would get a huge haul in return. The Nationals' weaknesses are behind the plate and in the bullpen. Wilson Ramos batted just .267/.299/.399 while free agent closer Rafael Soriano in unlikely to be re-signed. Former setup man Tyler Clippard has moved on to the Athletics. While current projected Nationals closer Drew Storen enjoyed a career-best 1.12 ERA in 56 1/3 innings pitched last season, the other bullpen pitchers have a lot of question marks. If the Nats found a perfect suitor that addresses those issues, Strasburg could be on his way out. Teams that come to mind include the Royals, Astros and Brewers.
